Evaluation & Investigations
A preliminary infertility evaluation is a crucial first step in identifying the potential causes of infertility and determining the most appropriate course of treatment. Your healthcare provider will begin by thoroughly reviewing your medical history and may recommend a series of diagnostic tests to gain a comprehensive understanding of your reproductive health.
It’s completely natural to feel anxious about beginning the fertility evaluation and treatment process. Your first step should be to consult directly with a fertility specialist, who will guide you through the necessary preliminary tests and assessments. To make the most of your initial consultation, bring any previous medical reports or test results you may have. This helps streamline your evaluation and allows for a quicker, more personalized treatment plan.
Male Partner Test
Male infertility typically refers to a man’s inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female partner, despite regular, unprotected sexual intercourse for a year or longer. In about 30–50% of cases, male factors contribute to infertility. Identifying and addressing male fertility issues early can significantly improve the chances of achieving a successful pregnancy. Male infertility is most often related to problems with sperm production or sperm function.
A thorough evaluation usually involves the following:
- Semen analysis: The main test to check sperm count, movement (motility), and shape (morphology.
- Hormone tests: Blood tests to check hormones like testosterone, FSH, and LH that affect sperm production.
- Scrotal ultrasound: Imaging to look for varicocele (enlarged veins), blockages, or structural problems.
- Genetic tests: To find chromosomal or genetic causes of low or absent sperm.
- Special sperm function tests — To check sperm DNA quality or ability to fertilize an egg (used in selected cases).
Female Partner Test
Female fertility can be evaluated using these baseline tests
- Testing for ovulation
Ovulation occurs between Day 12-Day 18 of a regular
menstrual cycle that occurs every 26 to 32 days. - Hormone Testing
On day 3 of the menstrual cycle, blood tests are
performed to check for the levels of FSH(Follicle Stimulating Hormone),
E2 (Estradiol) and AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone). - Progesterone level
During day 20-22 of a 28 day cycle the serum
progesterone level are measured. - Other Test
Your fertility specialist or gynecologist may recommend

FAQs
What is infertility, and when should I be concerned?
Infertility is the inability to conceive a child after trying to get pregnant for a certain period of time without using any form of birth control.
When to be concerned:
If you are under 35 years old: You should consider seeing a healthcare provider if you have been trying to conceive for 12 months without success.
If you are 35 or older: It’s recommended to seek evaluation after 6 months of trying without success.
You should also be concerned and seek advice sooner if you have any of the following:
- Irregular or absent menstrual cycles
- Painful periods or pelvic pain
- Known reproductive health issues (like endometriosis, PCOS, or history of pelvic infections)
- A partner with known fertility problems
- Previous pregnancies but now facing difficulty conceiving.
Do I book an appointment with a gynecologist or fertility specialist?
You can easily book an appointment with our Fertility specialists online through our website or call our clinic directly. We offer flexible scheduling and same-day consultations for urgent care needs.
What should I expect during my first visit to the clinic?
During your first visit, our doctor will review your medical history, discuss any current symptoms or concerns, and perform a basic health evaluation or exam. This helps us develop a customized treatment or wellness plan based on your needs.
Do you offer fertility assessments and treatment options?
Yes, we provide complete fertility evaluations for both men and women.
For women: Blood tests to check hormone levels (e.g., FSH, LH, estradiol, thyroid hormones), ultrasound to assess ovaries and uterus, possibly tests to evaluate fallopian tubes such as hysterosalpingography (HSG). In cases of unexplained infertility, diagnostic procedures like hysteroscopy (to look inside the uterus) or laparoscopy (to examine the pelvic organs) may be recommended.
For men: Semen analysis to assess sperm count, motility, and shape.
Our fertility treatments include IUI, IVF, and ovulation induction, with personalized plans to increase your chances of conception.
Is egg freezing a good option for preserving fertility?
Egg freezing is a fertility preservation method that allows women to store their eggs for future use, helping them plan pregnancy on their own terms. Rao Hospital offers advanced egg freezing services to provide women with more options and peace of mind about their reproductive future.
Is maternity and birthing support available at your facility?
Absolutely. We offer comprehensive maternity care from early pregnancy through labor and delivery. Our birthing team includes OB-GYNs, neonatologists, nurses and lactation consultants to support a safe and positive birth experience.
